    Whale-hope-chest

Title: Original Catherine Norman-Donavan carved and painted hope chest entitled “Saoirse”

Saoirse, Pronounced ‘Soar-sha’ is gaelic for freedom. Catherine Norman-Donavan, a celebrated artist from Nova Scotia, Canada finds inspiration from her East Coast surroundings and Atlantic coastline. She notes that the title of this hope chest speaks volumes to the plight of the great whale and that of these young children we are working to help.

Spencer Donovan shares Catherine’s love of nature as well as her love of Nova Scotia. Working together on their wood pieces, they recently joined their lives together in marriage. A native of Ingonish, Nova Scotia, Spencer recently took on an early retirement so that he may spend more time devoted to his art.

While vacationing in Nova Scotia in early July, Naomi came across Catherine and Spencer’s wood carvings in a gallery in Mahone Bay. Intrigued with the detail in their carvings, Naomi phoned them, asking if they would consider support ‘Naomi’s Hope for a Cure’ through the carving of a Nova Scotian hope chest. Catherine and Spencer didn’t hesitate to say yes. They knew only too well the devastation of childhood cancer. Unknown to Naomi, Catherine shared that their 13 year old nephew has been fighting cancer since an early age and has proven to be a worthy adversary to the disease. In supporting ‘Naomi’s Hope for a Cure’, Catherine and Spencer are supporting cutting-edge research that is needed to find cures for all children and teens diagnosed with cancer, including their 13 year old nephew.
