Title: Original Trevor Romain painted hope chest entitled “Sea of Smiles”
At a recent motivation talk, Trevor Romain was introduced as a “slightly dyslexic, peer-pressured, attention-span-challenged, borderline-mischievous kid” who became a best-selling author and video personality. He describes himself as “Monty Python meets Dr. Seuss at Jerry Seinfeld's house in Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood.” However, perhaps it is the children with cancer who know him best. In the oncology wards across the US, he is known by cancer children as “Dr. Mischief!” Gifted with an ability to make children laugh, Trevor has a magic that draws children to him in a unique and almost spiritual way. Though the laughter he is able to help the children face their cancer treatment with courage and hope.
Writing and illustrating since he was in the third grade, Trevor has published more than 30 books with over a million copies in print, many translated into 14 different languages. His children’s self-help books and associated five animated videos such as: Taking the “Duh” out of Divorce; What on Earth Do You Do When Someone Dies; and Bullies are a Pain in the Brain, were created with the intent that “children laugh, learn, and love”. His love of children extends to the ‘promotion of their social and emotional fitness.
Besides writing, illustrating, speaking, and trying to avoid trouble, Trevor regularly appears on radio and TV. His award-winning video collection, in which he is the leading character, received the Cine Golden Eagle Awards for 2005 and was endorsed by the KID’S FIRST Coalition for Quality Kid’s Media and School Library Journal. Children are encouraged to watch for Trevor on Saturday morning PBS TV, starting in the Fall 2007.As the Washington Times reports “His rapport with kids is stunning to watch.” Recently, he has become an ambassador for the United Nations and has traveled to many refugee camps where he can be found huddled with the children, giving them hope and personal strength during such extraordinary difficult circumstances.
Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation is proud to have Trevor as one of their national board members and as one of the contributing artists to ‘Naomi’s Hope for a Cure.’ His hope chest entitled “Sea of Smiles” will be a favorite at the live auction and will provide an opportunity for Trevor’s fans to own one of his unique and priceless pieces of art!
