Senator Dianne Feinstein was elected to represent California in 1992. Fifteen years later, she is still regarded as a strong leader, a woman with an independent voice who works with both the Democratic and Republican Party to find working solutions to issues that impact our country.

Senator Feinstein serves as Chair of the Rules and Administration Committee, serves on the Senate Judiciary Committee, and is a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. She is also a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and currently serves as the Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Interior Department and Related Agencies. She is also a member of the Subcommittees on Agriculture, Rural Development, and Related Agencies; Commerce, Justice, and Science; Defense; Energy & Water; Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies.

Senator Feinstein is a strong voice in the Senate in support of cutting-edge cancer research. She is a firm believer that cancer can be beaten in her lifetime. Having lost her husband, father and friends to cancer, Senator Feinstein knows personally the importance of developing new treatments for this life-threatening disease. Her optimism is summarized in her following statement: "We stand at a great moment in time. It is now possible to make advances in the treatment and prevention of cancer that were not possible before -- because of the advances in molecular and cellular biology and the human genome. … If we increase research funding into new drugs, who knows what we might be able to accomplish.”

It is because of this belief in science, and her hope for a future that is free of cancer that Dianne became the Vice-Chair of C-Change—a non-profit organization comprised of approximately 130 of America’s key cancer leaders and organizations. Here she uses her leadership skills to guide members towards the goal of eliminating cancer as a major health issue in the United States.

In addition to Dianne’s brilliant mind, strength of character, leadership skills, and commitment to this country, she is also an incredibly talented artist. Known for her watercolor paintings of her own California garden, Dianne recently did a work for the Los Angeles Museum.

"Naomi’s Hope for a Cure" is honored to have the support of one of our nation’s greatest political leaders through the painting of one of the gala’s hope chests. We thank Dianne for her common vision and realization that cancer needs to be treated with new types of molecularly targeted drugs. It is our belief that there is no patient population in greater need of this new type of cancer treatment than our nation’s littlest cancer patients. We extend a heart-felt thank you to Dianne for her support of this event so that funds can be raised to develop targeted therapies for America’s children with cancer!
