Title: Original Alexandra Nechita painted hope chest entitled “All you need is Love”

Alexandra Nechita was born in 1985 in Romania and moved to Los Angeles, when she was two years old. She was already drawing extensively at that early age, and by the time she was seven, she had already mastered painting with oils and acrylics. At the age of eight, this great child artist had her first solo exhibition at the Los Angeles public library.

Despite her young age, Alexandra attracted both the media and art critics who began following her work. She became known as the ‘Petite Picasso’ and was respected as a child protégé who had mastered drawing and color, and who expressed her art in an abstract cubist way. As one critic commented: “Alexandra began where Picasso ended up. From the first, she has worked in a free, modern abstract style. Indeed, she has consciously rejected realist and academic techniques, demanding from the first to be completely herself. In this sense, her earliest accomplishments are more remarkable than Picasso’s.” Alexandra’s work is described as being intelligent, having finesse, humor, sensitivity, and strength.

By age ten, Alexandra had done a total of eight solo art exhibitions. At age 14, Alexandra was chosen by the World Federation of United Nations to lead an international arts initiative. Through this project which has involved more than 100 nations, Alexandra has touched the lives of children and adults through her work.

Alexandra continues to exhibit in the U.S. as well as around the world. She has received numerous awards and honors which include: Outstanding Artist of the Year (Lincoln Center NY.); Most Fascinating Woman of the Year (CBS TV); Outstanding Young person Award (Osaka, Japan); 100 Most Interesting People (People Magazine); UNICEF Gift of Songs; Woman of the Year (American Red Cross); and Lifetime Achievement (Fox TV).

Exhibiting in Rockville, Maryland in February of this year, Naomi approached Alexandra and told her that like so many other youth, she too had followed her extraordinary career. She told her of "Naomi’s Hope for a Cure" for all children with cancer in this country and asked for her support of this important cause and the gala event.

We are honored that Alexandra agreed to join a celebrated group of acclaimed artists to paint a full size hope chest to be auctioned off at the gala event. Together, through the support of inspirational artists like Alexandra, and cutting edge research, we can make a difference for the littlest cancer patients in the world. … Where Arts & Sciences Unite!
